What Is Ahegao?
Ahegao is a Japanese term for an exaggerated facial expression used in hentai and other adult anime art. The word roughly translates to "weird face" or "panting face." It typically shows rolled-back or crossed eyes, a protruding tongue, flushed cheeks and raised eyebrows, meant to signal overwhelming pleasure. The convention was codified in Japanese adult manga through the 1990s and 2000s and spread worldwide via doujinshi, fan art and image boards. Since the mid-2010s ahegao has crossed into mainstream internet culture as both a meme and a fashion motif, appearing on hoodies, phone cases and stickers that collage the expression. Within fan communities it is treated as a genuine artistic shorthand and, just as often, as a source of parody. Because ahegao is a drawing style rather than a character or series, it appears across virtually every hentai franchise, and it sits alongside related tropes such as heart-shaped pupils and "fucked silly." Most hentai galleries and boorus expose it as a dedicated tag so viewers can filter for it directly.
